I have been thinking about thinking. (Is that metathinking?) Read Andrea's post on "Deep or Justifiably Shallow", I agree with the sentiments she expresses but I do not think that there is any justification for not thinking. As Andrea says we need not feel the pressure to come up with big new thoughts; this ends up being self centred and essentially shallow. Eloquent rhetoric may sound nice, but rarely reveals truth. On the other hand, not thinking through relevant issues, not challenging your comfortable mind and accepting what ever your teachers say is not justifiable shallowness. Cruising through life never thinking for your self will cause the destruction of your personality. The end result of our relativistic, egocentric, ethnocentric, chronocentric, popular culture is death. (I fear that this is too bold, but the logical conclusion of pure relativism is self destruction and I do not desire that for anyone.)
What am I blabbing about: do not feel the pressure to produce big thoughts, but do not cease to think for your self. Pop culture produces an enormous amount of stupid ideas. These ideas are not new and they are not easy to refute without thinking for your self. Do not be afraid to ask questions, even about faith and the Bible; honestly seek the answers. Pursue people you trust and know to be wise, read books by trusted people, read and pray though Proverbs - there is infinite wisdom there, seek it.
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
Proverbs 4:7
This sort of thinking does not require you to pronounce it; or even feel that it is profound. This kind of thinking will be challenging, but you will discover the truth and it will be your sustenance.

actually, thinking about thinking would be metacognition. If you were currently thinking, you would be metacognicient.
